Katarina Grace Joyce

via

A while ago I got a comment saying 'Heya Kat! (ooh I love your name so much)
I love your blog. :) I'll be following soon-- thank you for all the sweet comments on my blog, girl!
' from Tane on my 'About' page where I told everyone my real name (if you haven't seen Tane's blog, go check it out. She's awesome).

This comment made me really happy, more happy than I think anyone could have imagined. It was really nice.

My name has been the source of some embarrassment. I used to go by Katarina when I was little but I soon stopped.

A while ago I met this boy, he shall not be named, and we were talking and my full name (Katarina Grace Joyce) came up. When the boy heard my name, he laughed. I was really hurt, but more by what he said afterwards.

"Your name sounds like a dolls. Sort of stiff and silly," I really wish I hadn't let this get to me. After all, he's only one boy, but sadly it has hurt me a lot. I lost a lot a confidence about my name and soon started going by Kat.

So yes, my name has been a huge embarrassment. That's why I was surprised and happy when Tane left this comment.

Thanks Tane! Thanks to everyone who has read this post because it felt good telling people about this:)

-Kat

  1. Aww but your name is really nice! You shouldn't let that boy get to you. Just imagine having a name like Yasmine... :) Your name is truly lovely though; there is no need to be embarrassed.

  2. That boy is an idiot. You have a beautiful name! Seriously, Katarina is like the name you give the brave, beautiful heroine in a book. Katarina is so unique and it's something special about you. :)

Seriously, it's a beautiful name. I'd love to have a name like that - Bethan isn't very heroine-like...

    xoxo,
    Bethan

  3. Don't listen to what people say about you. I think names like Katarina are a lot more interesting than regular, generic names. People will remember you.

That boy didn't know what he was talking about. :)

  4. Lemme tell you something, Katarina Grace Joyce, you lift your chin high, and you scream your name to the world if you want to - it is a flawlessly gorgeous name. There is nothing stiff, nothing silly about it, it is as beautiful as you ever could imagine it to be. That boy lied.
I can tell you, that I'd love to have your name, oh, I'd love it. And I can tell you, that before I came across your blog, I had planned to name one of my daughters Katarina or Catherine someday.
Now I'm sure it's going to be Katarina. :)
I'm on top of the world happy that my comment made you happy-- you go on now, with your life, and NEVER be ashamed or embarrassed because of your name. Katarina Grace Joyce is who you are, and it's beautiful, so beautiful.

  6. Don't listen to him! I get called by my main nickname now (like the shortened variation of my name) because of that very reason! Well, that, and my name is really old fashioned. Besides, he has no taste if he can’t find beauty in your name.

    xoxo Morning
