Blogging over Christmas is hard work, so today I thought that I would post a few tips on how to keep your blog active over the Christmas season. So here we go...
Schedule. I know I've mentioned this so many times, but I will mention it again. Writing as many of your post for the Christmas time ahead of time will help you a lot later.
Reduce How Many Posts. Christmas is the time for hanging out with friends, being with family, having fun. Let's face it. With everything else you want to do, you might not have the time to write all the normally post. Writing a few less posts a week isn't such a bad thing, so long as you are still posting.
Have Guest Posters. Don't be afraid to ask for other people to write your posts for you. It might be nice to have a small break over Christmas where other people write for you. It might also give your readers a chance read something slightly different.
Set Yourself a Limit. Sometimes we fuss just a little bit too long over our posts. We want ever word to be perfect, amazing grammar, beautiful images. Sadly that will never happen and we spend just a little bit too long fussing over it. Try setting yourself a limit on how long you have to write your post in. This might also help you write more posts in a shorter amount of time as well.
Writer Shorter Posts. However good long posts are, over Christmas people have better things to do than read your posts. Writing slightly shorter posts doesn't only help you, but also gives your readers slightly less to fit into their busy schedule. But remember, go back to those longer post after Christmas!
Take a Break. Don't worry if you don't have time to write. Just tell your readers that you don't have time for this, you need a break. They'll understand, family and friends come first.
Well those are all my tips on how to keep blogging through Christmas. Do you have any tips to add? If you do, please feel free to leave them in a comment and I'll add them to the post with credit from you.
Edit:
added tips!
In the past, scheduling has been my biggest help. Another idea could be to write easier types of post, so a post of link occasionally instead of a complex post, or a short book review or something like that. Or you could rerun an old post that hasn't been seen much or that you particularly liked. Just a couple of ideas. Imogen @ Gossiping with Dragons
Also, I'm relaxing my posting schedule a bit over Christmas, but I will still be writing. Just be warned!

These are all great tips Kat! For myself, I'll be taking a couple of weeks off over Christmas as I have to study at uni at the same time, and I really need to focus on only a few things this month. ReplyDeleteThanks Imogen! That's so unfair! Studying over Christmas? I don't envy you. I hope everything goes well.
DeleteThat's great idea. I might be trying these myself, thanks for the ideas:)
Hope you enjoy your break!
For me, Christmas is pretty much the same as any other time of year, and extra time means more posts, not less! Mainly because a lot of my friends are away at uni so we'd skype anyway, or something. Great tips! I liked this post.
ReplyDeleteIt must be nice to get more posts instead of less in. I would love to have a more quiet Christmas, but sadly, we've got a lot of stuff we have to do over Christmas so it's busy busy busy.
DeleteGreat tips! Last year I took a long break from my blog for multiple reasons, and Christmas being one of them. I'm not sure what I'll do this year, probably just write a bunch of posts and schedule them. :)
ReplyDeleteI was thinking about taking a break, but I decided against it. I really love writing on this blog.
DeleteI hope you have a great Christmas.
Oh, these are awesome tips! I'm going away for a few weeks over Christmas so trying to figure out how to manage my blog while I'm away has been a little tricky. This was very helpful :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! I hope everything goes well and that you have a great time:)
Delete*whispers* I hope this posts because I've commented on a few of your posts and they've just disappeared. Not sure if it's me or not! Probably is. -_- Blogger probably heard I switched to WP and is being mean to me. ;-)
ReplyDeleteThese are fabulous tips! I find my blog-reading audience really does drop drastically over Christmas, so I don't do a lot of posts during, like, the 20th to end of the month. I probably will this year though because I'm SO behind on posting reviews. SCHEDULING FOR THE WIN! It's my lifesaver. ;-)
I think something's up with blogger, it's not even letting me put images in some of my posts!
DeleteI guess not everyone has the time to keep reading. I can't wait to see those reviews though. I love reading your thoughts on things.
Scheduling wins, doesn't it?
These are some really helpful tips, Kat! I made the stupid mistake of not listening to any of this last year and I was stressing over posts while I was on holiday OVERSEAS, during the Christmas break. This year me and my cobloggers are just taking a week long break, eheh. But yes, SCHEDULING! My coblogger has reviews planned for April. ISN'T THAT JUST CRAZY? She's a total machine
ReplyDeleteBlogging over holidays is hard? Isn't it? I hope things turn out to be easier this year and that you enjoy that week off.
DeleteThat's amazing! I can't believe it:)
