A Lesson I've Learnt

Yesterday I had a terrible accident on this blog! I clicked the 'Remove Content' button on all my comments.

In case you don't know what this does, it removes all your comments off your blog, but leaves them on the account, saying that they're published.

I was frankly horrified. I've worked hard on my blog and it been my best friend since I started it. The comments are a huge part of what I do. So I was distort. I couldn't believe I'd just done that.

After spending ages, googling for a way to undo it, I felt like giving up. I was no closer to knowing how to fix it then I had been before.

Feeling terrible, I went over to the comments and started playing around with buttons (bad idea) and then, guess what?! I seemed to sort it.

I'm not sure what I did, but I think it was spamming everything then unspamming it, but don't quote me on that!

Anyway, I think all my comments have come back safely. Which is a massive relief, but it's taught me a huge lesson, backup everything!

I've never backed my blog up before, I'm going to take to doing it once a week so that I don't loose all those comments and posts. I never want this to happen again.

I was going to write post, but in everything, I didn't up doing. So the subject I was originally going to write about (Bloglovin') will have to wait. Instead we've got this. Sorry (hahaha, not really).
Recently handling everything has been slightly hard. Sorry to anyone who I didn't reply to your comments straight away or didn't visit your blog back. I've been really busy. I'll sort things out soon!

  1. Ack! That sounds terrifying... usually I try to avoid not messing with things I don't understand in Blogger, because it messes up a lot of things. That's what happened with my blog template last year; I was trying to install a new design onto my blog when BAM! My template went all wonky. I had to end up putting my blog on private for a few days before it was functionally working again. :D Let's hope nothing like that happens again!

    1. I hate messing around with things on my blog. The thing is, I thought I was on the page with the comments that needed moderating. I wasn't paying much attention and so I clicked the button where 'publish' should have been and got a nasty shock. I was on the wrong page. I was on the published comments page and I had clicked 'remove content'. I'm super glad they're all back again!

    1. It was just a silly mistake I made. I'm sure everyone else would be far too smart to make it!

  7. It happens often that I accidentally almost delete a comment when I actually want to answer it (The delete and the reply button lie way to close to each other) but this hasn't happened to me yet... sounds horrible... but I do backup all my stuff, though I'm not sure, what I would do with my backup, because I have one file, where the comments AND the posts are in...

    1. I think that Blogger really needs to fix some things up, that you can just do these things without realising it! At least you need a warning, maybe a rearrange of buttons? I don't know, but something

  8. I've not backed up my blog either, I just backup it's template but I haven't exported the posts and comments. Thank you for sharing your incident and we can all learn from it by having a backup of the blog. It's a relief that you've managed to retrieve the comments back as well. :)
