Let's Talk Blogging Breaks Once More

I've been thinking a lot about people's view on blogging breaks. What once used to seem to be a brilliant idea is now looked upon with a horrified glance.

Why is this? I think I've worked out the answer. All too often what people think of as a short blogging break stretches on and on until it's eternal and when you finally want to start back, you lack the discipline you used to have.

Now I'm not going to ramble on as to all the whys and hows and everything. But a while ago I did remember my post, How to Take a Good Blogging Break. That post was mainly about how to come back from a blogging break, well, today I've decided to go a write a post to go with that, What to do While on a Blogging Break.

All too often there is the thing that we just lazy around a do nothing while on our break. This makes it really hard to get back into everything, but this shouldn't be the case. A break shouldn't be for giving up all together. Use this time to usefully.

Brainstorm. One of the reasons you're taking your break might be because you're out of ideas. Even if it isn't some extra ideas for when you need something on the spur of the moment might me a good idea.

So in your free time, pull out a notebook. Write down all those blog post ideas that come to you. Get the inspiration racing!

Make plans for the blog. A break is a good time to put some changes into action. Are you tired of your currant design? Do you want a new posting schedule? How about starting a blogging series?

Think about a few good changes you could make. Every blog can be improved, so just work on yours over the break.

Write up some posts for later. Wouldn't you love to be ahead of writing posts? Well then now's your change to get there.

You don't have to spend your whole break writing. Especially as seeing as you're taking a break from writing. But writing posts when you have the time might help went you go back to your blog.

Catch up on the social media. I said this in my other post. But it's worth saying again. Keep on with your social medias. Don't loose all those readers and friends. Keep going.

All too often there isn't much time for social media around writing posts, so a break a perfect to time become more active on them. Just because you're not writing doesn't mean you don't have anything share.

Relax. The purpose of break is to recover so you can continue what you're doing. So RELAX! Just sit back and enjoy yourself.

Pick up a book you've been meaning to read, watch the Marvel movies again, get some new hobbies, take photos. Do whatever you need to. It's your break!

Good luck on your blogging break! I hope these tips help you. If you're interested, check out my other post. I'd mean the world to me.

Even though I'm thinking about blogging breaks, I'm actually really excited for all these things I'm hoping to do on my blog soon. I've got heaps of posts coming which I'm excited about. So don't worry, no blogging break coming for me yet.

  1. Watching a movie helps because even if you have nothing to write you can always write a review of a movie :D
I'm pretty sure if take a break I'd end up re-reading Harry Potter lol XD

    1. I know! Movie reviews and some of the best. Everyone needs more movies to watch.
I'd properly end up rereading the Percy Jackson series(s).

  2. Very good post Kat :)

I've never had a formal blogging break and I dont really believe in them I guess. I believe that blogs are for the writer; barely for the reader. so I only blog when I have time and feel the need to. never more and never less. so I dont really announce breaks I guess. I only thought to that once but that was a different situation. but thats just my view.

    1. Thank you!
I've never taken one either, except when my family is going away on holiday. Sometimes a blogging break is good though to clear your head.

  3. Totally agree with these! Although the only time I've taken blogging breaks has really been enforced because of going away with no internet. xD Like I went away for nearly a month once, and that was quite hard being totally severed from the blog...it did make me come back with SO many ideas and post drafts, so that was handy.

    1. Me too! But I guess I haven't been blogging long enough to want to take a break. Taking breaks is a great way to spark the ideas for your blog, isn't it?

  4. This is a great post! Honestly, I wish I'd thought of the topic. :)
I always lose sight of my social media. I think I have about seven (?), and I only ever check my blog and occasionally instagram. ^^

Anyway, I loved this post! I agree that many people go off on a blogging break and come back completely unmotivated, but sometimes it's needed. :)

    1. Thank you! You could always do you version. There are never too many tips:)
I have too many as well. I only really use Twitter. Even Instagram is forgotten most of the time.
Lack of motivation is the reason blogging breaks hardly ever work, but I reckon if you plan well you can come back in style.

  5. I love these ideas, especially brainstorming post ideas while you're on break. When I took my blogging break over Christmas (a break I particularly enjoyed), I spent a fair chunk of time organising my blogging, brainstorming ideas, and writing posts. It was just good to be away from the pressure of actually posting, even for a little bit. Another thing that's good to do on blogging breaks is to read other people's blogs and comment more. I know something I get so caught up in my blogging schedule that I don't have time to comment as much as I'd like. Just staying connected with the blogging community in that way can be inspiring as well.

    1. Breaks are the perfect time to do that!
Great idea. I wish I'd thought to add that one:) Commenting is so hard around everything else. Even replying is hard work. So a break is the perfect time to catch up.

  6. This is such a great post. I think a lot of bloggers could definitely use this post. including me.:) personally I still really like blogging so I don't think I will be taking a break soon, but your ideas are great. writing posts ahead of time is a really good idea.

    1. It's always good to have the ideas later for when you do feel like a break!
I nearly always write my heads early to save all the rush of getting them posted.

  7. I haven't taken a blogging break (yet), but if my family and I go on vacation again I may have to subject myself, and my muse won't be back to normal until the week I get back to school. That's pretty bad. >.< Do the same tips apply when you go on vacation off the computer?

    xoxo Morning

    1. I guess the same tips do. Vacation is a great way of disconnecting and thinking about what you want to do. My family normally goes away once a year and I find it really helps.
