Today I thought I would do what I do best, ramble about being short. Because there is a lot to say about your height.
One of the biggest problems about being short is not being able to reach anything. Like when your in the super market and Dad sends you for something that's on a high shelf. It's so embarrassing.
Another problem with being short is clothing. I know all those super crafty people out there would have no problem with this, but for me, I have to buy everything I own.
The most embarrassing thing about my height is that I can fit into kid's clothes. I don't mean squeeze in, but fit it better than I do with adult clothing.
So most of what I wear is kid's cloths. Which make's for another problem. It's really hard to find grown up looking clothes in the kid's section because it is for kid's.
Now I have heard a lot of tall people moaning about there height. They say things like 'I wish I was short. It's hard being this tall'. I don't mind being short, but it kind of annoys me when 'tall' people say things like this. I have quotations marks around 'tall' because some of them are no more than average height.
There are ups and downs of every height and no one should moan about how tall they are. They should just enjoy and boast about their heights, no matter what they are.
Some people say that being short is pretty. Everyone is beautiful, but for short people, if you can't find the right clothes then you end up looking dumpy and fat. This is so easy to do. You have to be super careful when choosing what to buy. It's harder for short people to look dainty and pretty.
It's a bit hard to do sports at my height. You kind of get swamped. I never will have a career in something like soccer or ballet.
One thing that get's really annoying is when no one will believe you about your age. They say things like 'no, you can't be fifteen. You're too small' as if they know your age better than you do.
It can be a little bit funny after a while though, when people hear how old you are and take a step back in surprise.
There are a lot of other things I could list about being short, but these are the main ones I have noticed. If you have anything else to add, please do.

Oh my goodness, yes!!! I'm short too; I love vertical stripes on my t-shirts, but then it makes me look so short. It's so annoying! And climbing on cabinets on my house is what I do. I'm on 4'11" (which is like, 1.4986 meters) and it's just hard. And I hate that part when tall people complain. Be lucky that you're tall! We short people envy you!!!
ReplyDeletexoxo Morning
And YES, the age. The oldest everyone thinks I am is 12, although some people say thirteen. AHEM, you're off by so much!
DeleteI have taken to wearing no stipes. They turn into more problems than they're worth! I know, please be thankful. Hahaha, I hear of some people being thought older than they are and I'm like 'couldn't that for once happen to me, please?'.
DeleteI totally relate to this post. All the girls in my family are short (we don't dare get the tape measure out and see just how short). It always annoys me when I buy clothes and then have to turn up the hems just so I can wear them. I took a skirt up 8cm last week and it's still floor length. Fashions are made for average to tall people I'm afraid. I never had a problem with the age thing. People used to take me for older than I was actually. Once I was out with my (then) 15, 111 and 7 year old sisters and someone asked if I was their mother! But my sister Charlotte has the age problem. She turned 17 and people thought she was 13. Poor girl's even shorter than me. Most of the time I'm happy being short thankfully. It's only clothes and people making me feel small that I don't like.
ReplyDeleteIs it easier being in a family of short people? My brothers are all taller and it's just me and my mum.
DeleteOh my! 8cm? I'm lucky to be able to wear kid's clothes. I'm hopeless at turning my clothes up and normal end up tripped over them:)
I'm too scared to bring out the tape measure as well. Everyone knows their heights, but I'm too scared too try!
That would have been embarrassing. I can't imagine that. Seems we have opposite problems. Maybe you just look mature.
I can totally relate! I'm very very short! And, I have most of those problems. I try to reach a plate in the kitchen cabinets and it ends up being some kind of jumping for your life session. Plus, you have to try not to break anything. I don't have the problem with the clothes though, they actually seem to fit me fine. But, people often think I'm younger than I'm really am. Once last year, I was going up the top steps to the 3 highest grade levels of the school (I was in fourth grade then) and some boys (who were in third grade) started whispering, "What is she doing up here?" "I don't know!" Then they asked me , "What grade are you in?" and I told them and they were very surprised. But, after a while you get used to people thinking you are young. Its actually kind of good in a way, because when we are old and have grown up, we will look young. Oh, and, be proud of your shortness!
ReplyDeleteGreat post!
I didn't realise so many bloggers had height problems! I've broken a few plates myself trying to get them out of the top cupboard. They ended up moving them to a lower one:)
DeleteHahaha, I'm glad I don't go to school. It would be so awkward. Some people even think I'm still in Primary (don't know what that would be for you).
I'm pretty average for my age, not tall, not short, but I can see that there are some disadvantages to both.
ReplyDeleteThere are. Average is best I would say:)
DeleteOne of the biggest problems I have with being short is the fact that I can never find good clothes to wear, like you said, and also my younger sister is taller than me and she likes to make fun of me for it. She likes to say, "Here's my OLDER sister," or, "Too bad you'll never be taller than me."
ReplyDeleteIt drives me nuts! Although, my cousin came up with a good point...someday when it's time for us shorties to get married...it's said that guys like shorter girls ;)
-Lauren <3
That must be so annoying! I've only got older brothers, so my friends take over and tease me:)
DeleteIt seems there are problems with both the extremes on the height scale. Whether you are tall or short there are cons and problems you have to face.
ReplyDeleteI remember how I used to crave shortness when I was younger. I think I'm finally getting around to accepting myself. :}
Lovely post dear. <3

There are.
DeleteI would love a bit of height, but I don't really care too much anymore. This post was more for fun than to moan:)
I'm of perfectly average height, but I have one friend who's short (only 5 feet) and one who's super tall (5' 11"!) so I often hear about both sides of the struggle!
ReplyDeleteYou know all there is to know then.
DeleteAmen, sister. Thank goodness for juniors extra small, right?
ReplyDeleteThanks goodness!
DeleteI understand completely!
ReplyDeleteI suppose though, you just have to find the good in it :)
Yes, there are good things, like being able to go unnoticed or ducking under things easier:) I will have to write about it sometime!
DeleteI COMPLETELY AND 100% AGREE!!! I'm 5'1 and everyone always thinks I'm at least 5 years younger than I am. gah! Why is it so hard to realise that short people grow older too?!! I have ALL these problems you listed. XD Best and most relatable post eeever. I'm always climbing on benches to reach things and the kids clothes is where I shop. Although, it is cheaper to buy kids clothes, so that's a bonus!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by @ Notebook Sisters!
Shorties!!! Wearing kid's clothes is sometimes really embarrassing, isn't it?! It's cheaper, but when people ask you where you got a piece of clothing from and you have to admit it's a kids' piece? Arh!
DeleteHaha I love this, I'm so glad you did the tag so I could see it! I'm super short too, and can totally relate to all of this!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I really enjoyed writing this post, so it was great to be able to revamp it:)
